SORAKKAI SADAM / BOTTLEGOURD RICE

SORAKKAI SADAM- This recipe is a very healthy one pot meal.This is a mild village style recipe with the health benefits of rice,moong dhal and bottle gourd.




Bottle gourd makes the rice soggy.Moong dhal stabilizes that.My mother makes two versions of this recipe.One is as said below.I'll post the other version which is also very tasty.



Ingredients
Bottle Gourd
1 Small Sized
Rice
1 Cup
Moong Dhal
1/4 Cup
Onion
1
Garlic
3 Flakes
Green Chillies
3
Cumin Seeds
1/2 tsp
Mustard Seeds
1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder
1/4 tsp
Salt
To taste
Oil
As Required



Method:

1.Wash,Peal the skin off and chop the bottle gourd into bite sized pieces.
2.Chop Onion,Garlic and slit Green Chillies.
3.Wash rice and moong dhal.
4.In a pressure cooker heat oil.Temper mustard seeds.
5.Saute onion,green chillies and garlic.Add the chopped bottle gourd and saute well.
6.Add salt and turmeric powder.
7.To this add rice,moong dhal and add required water.(I used around 2 1/4 cups of water in total and the consistency was perfect)
8.Allow it to cook for 3 to 4 whistles.
9.Serve hot with any spicy vegetable.
10.Cook 'n' Enjoy.


Tip: 

Usually while cooking rice I add 2 1/2 cups of water.In this recipe with moong dhal and the vegetable I used only 2 1/4 cups of water:So adjust water accordingly.
