MAA URUNDAI

MAA URUNDAI RECIPE - Maa Urundai is a traditional recipe that is prepared in village. This is a sweet that is made in no time and very  tasty recipe. This recipe has a melt in mouth texture.

POTTUKADALAI URUNDAI

This is my mother's recipe. There are different methods of doing maa urundai. In one method Jaggery syrup is used, other method is made of ghee. This method uses powdered sugar and does not have any ghee.

In Kongu region villages this Maavurundai is very popular.During temple festivals this is done at every home and shared with relatives. There is a custom of relatives visiting pregnant ladies with palagaram (sweets & snacks),fruits, flowers etc. This sweet would be prime among them. The sweet can be made rich by adding cashews fried in ghee.

Ingredients
Pottukadalai/Chatni Dhal
1 Cup
Sugar
1/2 Cup
Cardamom Powder
A Pinch
Water
As required

Method:

1.In a dry mixer, make fine powder of pottukadalai/chatni dhal and sieve it.
2.Make fine powder of sugar.
3.In a bowl mix pottukadalai powder, sugar powder and cardamom powder.
4.Boil around 1 cup of water.
5.Add 1/4 cup of boiling water slowly (very slowly) to the powder and mix well.Sugar melts on adding boiling water. So be careful while adding water.
6.Knead till it turns to a soft dough.Make lemon sized balls out of the soft dough.
7.Maa Urundai is ready
8.Cook 'n' Enjoy

Tip:
1.Add cashews fried in ghee while making balls.
2.Add water gradually or the dough may turn sticky.
3.There is one combination in which as a child I enjoyed having this sweet.Crumble the balls.Add a tsp of melted ghee.Mash a banana and mix it.Scoop using a spoon and enjoy it.Toddlers will like it for sure.
