CABBAGE PORIYAL/ MUTTAIKOSE PORIYAL WITH MOONG DHAL

CABBAGE RECIPE- This is a simple side dish with Moong Dhal added it makes the poriyal more healthy too.




I have tasted this recipe from my neighbor.Tried to replicate it.After some errors in the beginning got the way it has to be.And here is the recipe.



Ingredients
Cabbage
2 Cups
Moong Dhal
4 Tbl spn
Onion
1/2
Green Chillies
3
Coconut Gratings
3 tsp
Curry Leaves
few
Mustard seeds
1/4 tsp
Asafoetida
A pinch
Lemon Juice
2 tsp
Oil
As needed
Salt
To taste



Method:
1.Wash and soak Moong Dhal in water for 15 mins.Wash and finely chop Cabbage.(No big chunks)
2.Chop Onions and slit green Chillies.
3.Drain water from  Dhal.In a small vessel add lots of water and cook Moong Dhal.
4.In 10 to 15 mins Moonf Dhal will get cooked.It should not be over cooked.Drain water and keep mong dhal aside.
5.Heat oil in a kadai.Temper Mustard Seeds.AddAsafoetida,Curry leaves,Green Chillies and Onion one by one.
6.Saute well.Add chopped cabbage and add salt.
7.Allow the cabbage to get cooked.Do not add any water.After adding salt cabbage leaves water and it is sufficient to cook cabbage.Cook in medium flame.
8.When water drains add cooked moong dhal with no water.Saute well
9.Add coconut gratings and finally lemon juice.Give a quick stir and switch off the flame.
10.Tatstes best with Pulikuzhambu.
11.Cook 'n' Enjoy 



Tip:
1.To prevent Moong Dhal from turning mushy add lots of water above its level.
