ARISI PARUPPU SADHAM


Arisi Paruppu Sadham or Paruppu Sadham - a typical traditional Kongunadu recipe. You can  prepare this divine food in no time. When you are hungry and tired after travel, preparing this tasty recipe would be quite easy. Even while you cook, you will get tempted to taste the recipe for sure.

A simple lunch recipe. When you travel by train you can pack this food for lunch along with pickle.


Ingredients
Rice
1 Cup
Thoor Dal
1/2 Cup
Garlic
4 to 5
Dry Red Chilly
5 to 6
Cumin Seeds
2 tsp
Coconut
1/4 Cup (Optional)
Ghee
2 to 3 tsp
Turmeric Powder
1 tsp
Shallots or Small Onion
3 to 4
Oil
2 to 3 tsp
Mustard Seeds
1 tsp
Salt
To Taste



Method:

1. Wash Rice and Dal and soak in water.
2. Mean while grind Red Chillies, Garlic, Cumin Seeds into paste.
3. Cut coconut into very thin slices.
4. Heat a pressure cooker. Add oil and when it is hot add mustard seeds.
5. When mustard seeds splutters add shallots, ground paste followed by turmeric powder.
6. Add a little water so that the paste does not stick to the pan.
7. Add thin Coconut slices to this paste ad fry for a while.
8. Finally add 3 to 4 cups of water, salt to taste and the soaked rice and dal.
9. Close the lid and pressure cook for 5 to 6 whistles.
10. When the pressure is down open the lid and add ghee to the rice and mix well.
11. Arisi Paruppu Sadham is ready to serve.


Best accomplishment :
1. This recipe tastes good with pappad or pickle or curd.
2. Using coconut is optional. You can skip coconut when you pack this for travel
